WE ARE STARDUST follows Norwegian Jon Larsen—a true Renaissance man and jazz musician by profession. One day, a tiny particle lands on his breakfast table, and he begins to wonder whether it might be stardust. From that moment on, he dedicates his life to searching for micrometeorites—the universe’s microscopic gifts. The film’s director, Elisabeth Rasmussen, traces Jon’s journey, as he attempts to prove that his findings are genuine scientific discoveries. After the screening, we take a closer look at the concept of citizen science. We explore how knowledge can emerge from unexpected places and how it can be integrated into established scientific practice. When does skepticism become constructive? What role do intuition and wonder play in the process of understanding? And do outsiders and amateur researchers truly have a place in science? The talk will be moderated by journalist Kristoffer Lottrup, Videnskab.dk.
