About this Event
We are delighted to announce that Otley 2030 plan to continue our programme of Community Talks across 2026. These talks look at key issues related to climate change, nature recovery, and social justice and give local people the chance to learn about interesting topics from experts in their field. They're also an opportunity to find out more about Otley 2030 projects and how they can get involved.
Talk 4: Weston Woods, wildlife and you!
Whether you’re curious about local nature, passionate about conservation, or simply interested in what’s being done to look after Weston Woods, this talk will offer a glimpse into why these woods matter more than ever.
Join members of 'Friends of Weston Woods' to explore the vital role Weston Woods plays in our local landscape — not just as a beautiful place to walk, but as a crucial stepping stone for wildlife as we work to build a landscape resilient to growing threats, such as climate change. We’ll look at the diverse mix of species that already use the woods, those that could be using them, and the future possibilities as we continue to care for this special habitat.
We'll discuss the results of our Community Consultation and a nesting birds survey, talk about the importance of the woodland in ecological terms, and share opportunities for volunteering and citizen science.
Speakers will include local ecologists, Catherine Burton and Robyn Guppy as well as Francesca Bridgewater, Chair of Menston Area Nature Trust.
After the talk there will be a chance to ask questions and to mingle with Otley 2030 volunteers and learn about our projects, whilst enjoying a cuppa and some tasty sweet treats.
We're looking forward to seeing you there! Any questions, email [email protected]
