Prepare for a fast, “sporting” course characterised by long stretches of smooth tarmac and rolling terrain. This route is ideal for maintaining high speeds, provided you manage your effort over the undulations.
The Route
Start: Located on the A48, in close proximity to the Tabernacle United Reform Church.
The Outward Leg: Head East toward Chepstow. This section allows you to settle into your aero tuck and find your rhythm early.
The Turn: At the Parkwall Roundabout, riders will perform a full U-turn to begin the return leg.
The Return Leg: Head West back along the A48.
Finish: Located near Penhow.
Terrain & Elevation
While the course is built for speed, it isn’t pancake flat. You will encounter two primary undulating climbs, each gaining approximately 30m in elevation.
Gradient: Steady and manageable, with inclines never exceeding 5%.
Strategy: These sections are “big ring” climbs for most; stay smooth and avoid spiking your power too early.
Rider Safety Notes
Roundabout Caution: The Parkwall Roundabout is a high-speed junction. Ensure you signal clearly and check for traffic before committed to your turn.
Visibility: As this is a busy A-road, working front and rear lights are mandatory.
Marshals: Please follow all instructions from marshals at the start, turn, and finish areas.
Good luck and ride fast!
