Accessibility & Site Conditions
All South DeKalb Parks Naturalist programs are designed to be welcoming, supportive, and accessible to participants of varying ages, abilities, and mobility levels. Trailheads are selected for safe entry and stable footing.
We will begin on the lake loop, which provides relatively level, compacted surfaces that generally support walkers, strollers, and mobility aids. This portion offers steady footing along the water’s edge and is appropriate for most mobility levels.
As we transition toward the Glen Emerald Rock Garden, the terrain changes significantly. The route may include uneven ground, exposed roots, natural rock outcrops, narrow passages, shifting soil, and areas with variable elevation. These features make the Glen Emerald Rock Garden both ecologically rich and physically challenging. Participants using mobility devices or those with balance or joint concerns may wish to remain on the lake loop or discuss alternate routes with us in advance.
Restrooms
Please note that there are no restrooms at this site; participants should plan accordingly.
If you have mobility, balance, or pacing considerations—or would like to explore alternate route options—please contact us in advance. Our naturalist team is committed to working with all participants to create a safe and meaningful outdoor experience.
Weather & Safety
Programs proceed in light weather and are adjusted only when conditions are unsafe. Participants should dress for the day’s conditions and bring any assistive devices or supports they need.
