About this Event
This gathering is offered in the spirit of Yalda, the winter solstice celebration marking the longest night of the year and the slow return of the light. Rooted in Persian and Central Asian traditions, Yalda centers community, storytelling, poetry, and shared food, honoring both the darkness and the promise of renewal. The Pomegranate, a symbol of dawn, reminds us of the light that follows night.
We will begin with a contemporary, avant-garde performance featuring some of the cities improvisors, inspired by themes of descent and transformation. Mahshid Alavi, Leah Francis (movement), Safia Rezai (sculpture, installation), Ozzy Moysey (composition), Joel Stedman, Harvey Parkin-Christie, Flora Moana, Milana Sarukhanyan, Benji Arnold (musicians)
Afterwards, we’ll share food together, and finally close the evening with an open sharing, where you are welcome to offer a poem, story, reflection or simply witness.
This is a Pay As You Feel event. All are welcome to participate in the way that feels right.
(homemade food will be a light meal)
