Explore the more vulnerable parts of filmmaking through a series of nurturing sessions.
About this Event

This full day workshop is a chance for South-West based women and non-binary filmmakers to explore the more vulnerable parts of filmmaking through a series of nurturing sessions.

We have gathered together session leaders who will be offering playful, exploratory and creative activities which will allow us each to dig deep into our personal motivations for our craft, to explore our personal obstacles, and to encourage us to seek out and make deeper connections with our tribe. The workshop will include a masterclass by a special guest, and interactive group sessions on embracing failure, protecting our passion, and financial wellbeing.

Lunch will be provided.

Bring a readiness to explore your craft and career in unexpected ways!

Places are limited for this workshop so book your ticket before they all go!

Session Details

1 - Playfulness workshop with Holly Meechan

Get out of your head and into a place of openness and creative freedom as Holly leads you through fun games and exercises designed to help you embrace failure, rediscover your inner child and create playful, powerful connections. A joyful way to shake off any trepidations and energise and empower us for the day ahead.

Holly is a Bristolian performer, theatre-maker, director, and facilitator. She is an expert in the art of connection and play, she is also pretty serious about silliness.

2 - Protect Your Passion

This session involves lots of group and partner work and will be followed by breakout sessions where we work in smaller groups to work on our next steps and find a personal cheerleader to check in and support us over the coming weeks.

Alison Powell is the founder of Write Club, creativity and life coach and writer.

3 - From F*ck It to Flourishing:

Ditch the emotional rollercoaster, embrace your value & thrive with the work you were put on this planet to do, with Jessica Adams.

A 60-min interactive workshop designed to help you master your emotions, detach self worth from earnings and confidently position yourself as an expert so you can get more from your career without sacrificing your values, health or relationships.

Jessica is a Business Mentor & Strategist for smart, ambitious female founders and leaders with vision.

4 - Ella Glendining, Writer, Director, Actor & Access Coordinator

Ella Glendining is a writer/director/actor dedicated to telling authentic disabled stories. In 2024 Ella received a BAFTA nomination for her feature documentary 'Is There Anybody Out There?' and two Scottish BAFTA nominations.

Who We Are

This event is organised by Forge Women. We are an informal support group for women and non-binary filmmakers and film adjacent creatives living in the South West, run by our members. We try to meet regularly in person in Bristol, and also on Zoom. If you're interested in joining us get in touch with Ronit ([email protected]) or Fern ([email protected])

We are pleased to be a part of Bristol City Council’s Film Services* Community Tour supporting the next phase of their skills programme. By attending this event you will hear more about their plans to support new entrants to the Film/TV industry in the West of England.

This event is a part of the West of England Film/HETV Workforce Development Programme which is delivered by Bristol City Council’s Film Services *(comprising The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol UNESCO City of Film and Bristol Film Office) . It was funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority’s Mayoral Priority Skills Fund which provides flexible grants to meet current priority skills gaps in the region. This project was part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
