Steve Davis & Gaz Williams
The bizarre combination of bass player and YouTuber Gaz Williams (Karl Hyde, Charlotte Church) and six times snooker world champion Steve Davis, DJ and musician (Utopia Strong) dates back to pandemic era where the two would converse remotely about their new found love of modular synths eventually leading to a series of long form jams in 2021. Realising that a natural chemistry existed they stated occasional live performances exploring pure improvised music without allocating predefined roles allowing the natural interplay to forge directions deep in to the unknown. 2024 saw the duo perform at Brecon Cathedral as part of Brecon Jazz festival’s 40th anniversary. That year also saw the formation of the new label Rack Records with its motto of “spontaneous electronic conversations” as an imprint to release collected raw improvisations without any further editing or overdubbing.
Three Field Lines
are Andrew J Brooks on bass saxophone/effects and Simon Holmes on euphonium/vocals/effects. Improvisation and listening are central to their sound - using field recordings from both urban and natural settings. A common key signature and field recording is selected as a starting point, they then translate what they hear into layered audio from the instruments and effects resulting in the development of unique performances.
