Rescue our Foods to help Rescue our Planet: A Climate Fresk x MoNo Foods Workshop

Did you know that in 2024, Singapore generated approximately 750,000 tonnes of food waste?
Despite our best efforts, only 18% of that food was recycled, meaning over 600,000 tonnes—the weight of over 40,000 double-decker buses—went straight to our waste-to-energy plants and the Semakau Landfill.
When food is wasted, we don't just lose the meal; we lose all the water, land, and energy used to produce and transport it.

Join us at MoNo Foods for an immersive eco-literacy workshop where we connect the dots between your grocery list and global climate science.

The Workshop:

Decode climate science in a fun, gamified participatory learning style. The Climate Fresk is a hands-on workshop based on the latest IPCC reports, where you will be guided by a trained facilitator to discover the cause-and-effect of climate change, and how food waste can be a "triple-threat" to our environmental sustainability:

  • Direct Emissions: For every tonne of food waste incinerated, it is estimated to produce approximately 0.9 to 1.0 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (depending on the carbon content of the food).
  • Consuming only what we need: The most sustainable way of improving our environmental impact is to consume only what we truly need. Not only would this reduce waste, it will also reduce "invisible" upstream emissions from land use, industrial processes, transportation of goods, which goes into producing our favourite pantry snacks & comfort food.
  • Semakau is expected to be full by 2035: Our only landfill, Semakau, is projected to reach full capacity by 2035. Every snack rescued is a second of life given back to our island’s landscape.

The "Rescue Snacks" Credit:

After learning the science, you'll be invited to utilise your store credits to "rescue" high-quality snacks, beverages, and pantry staples that were destined for the bin simply because of a "Best Before" date.

  • Workshop participation fee: $15
  • The MoNo Twist: Your entire $15 fee will be converted into Store Credits at MoNo Foods, which you can utilise after the workshop on-site, to help us resuce high quality snacks such as Oatley, Hersheys, Lays & more!

How to register:
  1. Sign up via Google form here!
  2. Follow the PayNow instructions on the form & upload screenshot of transfer.
  3. At the end of the workshop, you will be able to shop at our store to utilise your $15 store credits. Stack as many food items in our given box to maximise the store credits!

Why Join Us?
  • Decode the science of Climate Change: A card-based gamified participatory learning style to help you understand the climate crisis that we're experiencing today.
  • Local Impact: See how MoNo is helping Singapore reach her "Zero Waste Masterplan" goals.
  • Mindset Shift: Learn to distinguish between "Expiry" and "Best Before" dates to reduce your own household waste.
  • Community: Meet others who are just as passionate about rescuing our planet!

Kindly note that participants will be seated on the floor throughout the course of the workshop (with mats provided), so do dressed comfortably & feel free to bring your own mats!

About MoNo Foods

is a pioneering social enterprise in Singapore dedicated to rethinking the "Best Before" date and eliminating food waste at its source. Operating as a diversion platform, MoNo rescues high-quality, shelf-stable food such as snacks, beverages, and pantry staples that would otherwise be sent to incineration due to overstocking or approaching date labels.

Located at & , MoNo operates through a unique community-driven model:

  • Education First: They empower consumers to use their senses (look, smell, taste) to judge food quality, challenging the "expiry date" myths that contribute to Singapore’s 750,000 tonnes of annual food waste.
  • Accessibility: Through their "Fill-a-Box" and contribution-based pricing, they ensure sustainable eating is inclusive, supporting everyone from conscious consumers to low-income households.
  • Environmental Impact: By keeping perfectly good food in the human consumption loop, MoNo directly reduces the carbon emissions generated by Singapore's waste-to-energy incineration plants.
