Enjoy a hands on discovery of the transformative possiblities of washi! Artist/instructor Margot Cudmore will guide you through the design and construction of a Japanese tsunobukuro-style bag, perfect for holding pens, pencils, a travel brush, and the small sketchbook you will also create in this full day workshop.
Workshop Highlights:
- Demonstrations on binding a pamphlet book
- Hands on experience treating washi with konnyaku
- Hands-on instruction for hand sewing a tsunobukuro-style bag
- Tips on organizing your supplies for all your creative journeys
You'll leave with one complete travel set, which includes a bag, and a journal, and a head full of inspiration to make more for all your friends.
All paper and supplies will be provided.
Participants are asked to bring:
- an apron, or dress to get messy
- kitchen gloves (optional)
- your lunch!
This in-person workshop is beginner friendly.

Your instructor is Margot Cudmore, one-half of Pomegranate Letterpress + Design Studio. She’s been on bookbinding journey for over 15 years. She loves learning new techniques and infusing them with her own style to create simple, purposeful journals. She stays curious by asking: how can we make it better?
