Located in the heart of the arts district of Northeast Minneapolis, the bakery and cafe invites visual artists' responses to the question, "What does warmth mean to you?" At the intersection between literal heat generated from our bakery ovens and café espresso machine steam wands and the friction emanating from political discourse and issues of justice is the center point for our show's curation. Playful. Charged. Practical. Electric. What is aflame within you? Where is heat rising in your creative world this winter season? We welcome your artistic responses!
Café Marguerite is thrilled to collaborate with artist–writer–activist C. Fausto Cabrera as guest juror for this show. Fresh off his shows at the Weisman Art Museum and Cargill Gallery, Cabrera brings his unique gifts and perspective to this show’s curation. Interdisciplinary artist, poet, and storyteller, Cabrera’s twenty-one years of confinement forged a practice that now transcends genre, each medium a declaration of what's possible beyond the cage.
This show opens January 9 and will hang for 10 weeks. The Cafe will host an opening night party Friday, January 9, from 5:30–8 PM. Wine, beer, cocktails and food will be available for sale.
