'Wanderlust' is een maandelijks terugkerend muziek evenement in PLEINKAMER, dat is opgezet en samengesteld door Andrius Dereviancenko.
Deze sessie luisteren we naar muziek van Azubike Onwuka en Guillermo Celano-Natalio Sued.
Inloop vanaf 16:00, het eerste concert begint om 16:30.

Azubike Onwuka
Born and raised in the multicultural neighbourhood of Amsterdam South East, with Dutch and Nigerian roots, Azubike has always been familiair with the blending of seemingly distant cultures. His music reflects this in many ways. After receiving his Bachelors degree from the Jazz department of the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Azubike set out to break the stereotypes around the bass guitar, classical music and multicultural communities.
His approach is rooted in tradition, yet expands on it. He blends different elements together into a cohesive and compelling whole, presenting them with the confidence that they were always meant to be together. "The bass guitar is an instrument of our time. This makes it a perfect medium to voice the music of our time, and translate older forms of music into a modern dialect. The Violin, Kora and Sarod were once new instruments, whose journey started in folk traditions. By now they have long been established as indispensable parts of classical traditions. I believe the bass guitar has the same potential and it it is up to us musicians to determine the future course of our instrument."

Guillermo Celano-Natalio Sued
Hello, thanks for coming. Please have a seat over there. The cat is okay, El Gordo wants to look tough but there is nothing he likes more than being petted. Any drinks? Unfortunately, we only have coffee or mate here.
Let me be frank with you: this was not meant to be an album. We had no concept beforehand. It all started, as is usually the case between Guillermo and me, as a game, a sort of trial-and-error approach. He got some new recording gear that wanted to try. By that time, I was attempting to add some new standards to the meager list of tunes I can play on clarinet (a noble, wonderful instrument that refuses to be under my full command).
We booked a weekend during the winter break of Guillermo’s two daughters, and suddenly his bedroom, the warmer and best sounding place in the house, became —thanks to his generous wife who took the girls on a trip to Ameland— our private studio for two consecutive afternoons.
Even though the duo has been in existence for several years and has another album with original music: Space in Time, Koshkil records (see link below), it was completely unclear the direction this recording might take. We started with some free improvisations, searching for a satisfactory sound, reexploring our music possibilities, until the first jazz standard was called.
