About this Event
Walks of Wisdom and Women of Colour Brighton Group come together to celebrate the Summer Solstice through walking, reflection, nourishment, and connection in nature - with kind support from the Co-op Community Fund. In collaboration with: Women of Colour Brighton - https://www.womenofcolourbrighton.co.uk
As we gather beneath midsummer light, this season also holds the spirit of Litha - the pagan midsummer celebration of light, abundance and renewal. June also marks the beginning of Pride Month, a time of visibility, love and honouring identity, and a month that also holds the Islamic New Year, inviting reflection, transition and new beginnings.
Together we will walk, pause, gather and rest in meditation before returning to our home for the day at Woodland Garden. We’ll break bread together, then settle into a sound bath for rest and renewal, before gently closing in connection, voice, healing, and song.
We'll explore the scent of stems, branches and trunks, right down to the roots, as we gather beneath life-giving midsummer light and walk together through the beautiful landscapes of Stanmer, taking in woodland edges, open clearings, and the flowering abundance of June.
We'll breathe in the sweet scent of honeysuckle and wild greens, notice pale summer blooms alive with bees, and wander alongside dog roses, bramble flowers, and cow parsley. Keep watch for butterflies dancing through the clearings - perhaps green hairstreaks or white admirals - as sunlight reaches its zenith across the forest floor.
What to Bring:
Water bottle - There is a tap on site, however we’ve been advised the pipework is very old, so bringing your own drinking water is recommended.
Comfortable walking shoes -Please wear suitable footwear for walking, as we’ll be exploring woodland paths and outdoor spaces.
Weather-wise clothing - We will be outside for most of the day, so please dress in layers and bring anything that helps you feel comfortable and supported. Sun hats, waterproofs, or warmer layers. Whatever feels right for the day.
Something comfortable to lie or sit on for the sound bowl meditation, you may wish to bring a yoga mat, blanket, or something soft to rest on.
Lunch or something to share (optional). Some treats will be provided, but please bring something for your lunch. If you’d like to, you’re also warmly welcome to bring something small to share as part of a gentle shared lunch.
Café nearby. There is also a café around 5 minutes away for anyone who may prefer to buy food or a drink on the day.
