About this Event

Walking Tour of Victorian and Edwardian Stratford upon Avon

Saturday 25th April 11.00am – 4.00pm

Led by Jim Ranahan, Archivist at the Shakespeare Memorial Trust

Cost: £7.00 (this price does not include refreshments or buffet lunch)

Meet at 11.00 a.m. outside Stratford railway station not the out of town Park and Ride station). There is a 9.51 a.m. train from Snow Hill Station in Birmingham, due to arrive in Stratford Town at 10.47 a.m. Saturday 25th April is also the weekend when Shakespeare’ s birth is celebrated so the town will be very busy with tourists. We strongly advise members to travel to this event on public transport rather than by car as parking will be difficult.

Jim was one of the lecturers at our Transport Day School in November and following on from that offered to arrange a specific tour of Stratford for us. We do not usually associate Shakespeare’s birthplace with Victorian and Edwardian architecture, but Jim will show us that there is much to admire. Expect to see the railway station, clock tower of the former hospital, alms houses, labourers’ cottages. Also, evidence of the mid-Victorian expansion of the town which .in both the main town and the waterside.

There will be notes provided by Jim on the day.

As there are a large variety of eating places in Stratford, we have not booked a specific venue. Members can either bring a packed lunch (possibly eat by the River Avon) or find their own eating place. You will have a lunch break long enough to find and eat at a café.

See our separate refund document for details of our refunds policy. If you would like confirmation of your booking send an s.a.e. or request email confirmation.
