About this Event
This walking tour takes you through the old part of Stratford town, looking at how it developed into an important market town which attracted travelling players in the time of William Shakespeare.
The walk starts at the statue of William Shakespeare, on Henley St, near the Shakespeare Birthplace gift shop and lasts about 1.5 hrs.
We continue through the old town, passing the buildings that would have been known to Shakespeare and his family. We learn how the town developed into an important inland port in the 18th century and how a London theatre manager started the modern tourist attraction of Shakespeare's home town. The tour will finish at the Gower Memorial, another of the town's statues of Shakespeare.
Please wear comfortable shoes.
The walk is mainly outdoors, although we may be able to go inside the guild chapel if it is open.
