About this Event

Volunteer at Juneteenth Fillmore Celebration on Saturday, June 15th! There are many opportunities to volunteer. We have 3 different shifts for the festival, as well as an option to volunteer all day if you choose. To sign up to volunteer, please sign up here by selecting your shift. Then, communicate your desired position to the volunteer recruiter in order to complete your application process. While we will do our best to ensure you are placed in your desired role, we cannot guarantee your top choice.

Please read about our volunteer positions below, as well as the responsibilities of each. Please note, responsibilities are subject to change on the day of the event.



Volunteer Positions:



Carnival Rides & Games

Carnival Ride and Game Volunteers assist with the operation and supervision of carnival rides and games at the Juneteenth street festival. They ensure the safety of participants, help facilitate game play, and contribute to the overall enjoyment of attendees.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with the operation of certain carnival games according to safety guidelines and manufacturer instructions.
  • Greet participants and provide instructions on how to play carnival games or safely ride attractions.
  • Monitor the operation of rides and games to ensure they are functioning correctly and safely.
  • Enforce height and age restrictions for rides and games to ensure the safety of participants.
  • Collect tickets or tokens from participants and distribute prizes or rewards for game winners.
  • Assist with crowd control and line management to maintain orderly queues for rides and games.
  • Provide assistance to participants with disabilities to ensure they can safely enjoy the carnival attractions.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the carnival area, including picking up trash and organizing game supplies.



Fashion & Hair Show

Fashion Show Volunteers will assist with the coordination and execution of the fashion and hair show at the Celebration. They support the fashion show organizers and models before, during, and after the event to ensure a smooth and successful production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help dress and prepare models backstage, ensuring they are ready to showcase the featured garments and accessories.
  • Coordinate with the fashion show organizers to ensure models are lined up and prepared to walk the runway according to the schedule.
  • Provide assistance to the backstage team, including wardrobe assistants, hair stylists, and makeup artists, as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the backstage area throughout the fashion show.



Photo Booth

Photo Booth Volunteers are responsible for operating the photo booth and assisting attendees with capturing memorable moments during the festival. They ensure that the photo booth runs smoothly, provide guidance to participants, and help maintain a fun and engaging atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet attendees and invite them to participate in the photo booth experience, explaining the process and available props.
  • If needed, operate the photo booth software and camera equipment to capture high-quality images of participants.
  • Assist attendees with selecting props and posing for photos, offering creative suggestions and encouragement.
  • Monitor the photo booth area to ensure that props are used appropriately and the equipment remains in good condition.
  • Print and distribute photo prints to participants, ensuring accurate output and timely delivery.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized photo booth area, replenishing props and paper supplies as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service and engage with attendees to create a positive and memorable experience.



Classic Car Show

Classic Car Show Volunteers support the organization and operation of the Classic Car Show segment. They assist with various tasks to ensure the smooth execution of the car show, provide assistance to car owners and attendees, and help maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.

  • Greet and welcome car owners as they arrive and assist them with parking and positioning their vehicles in designated display areas.
  • Provide information and assistance to car owners, answering questions, and addressing any concerns they may have.
  • Monitor the car show area to ensure the safety and security of vehicles and attendees, reporting any issues or incidents to event organizers.
  • Assist with crowd control and traffic management to maintain a smooth flow of attendees around the car show area.



Info Booth

Info Booth Volunteers are responsible for providing information, assistance, and guidance to attendees at the festival. They serve as ambassadors for the event, helping visitors navigate the festival grounds, answering questions, and providing information about the various activities, vendors, and attractions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Welcome and greet attendees as they approach the info booth.
  • Provide accurate information about the festival schedule, activities, performers, and vendors.
  • Distribute maps, programs, and other informational materials to attendees.
  • Assist attendees with locating specific attractions, amenities, or services within the festival grounds.
  • Answer questions and address concerns in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Direct attendees to first aid stations, restrooms, and other essential facilities as needed.
  • Maintain a neat and organized info booth area throughout the event.
  • Collaborate with other volunteers and event staff to ensure a positive and enjoyable experience for all attendees.



Beer Garden

Beer Garden Volunteers assist with the operation and management of the Beer Garden area at the Celebration. They ensure compliance with alcohol service regulations, provide customer service to patrons, and contribute to a safe and enjoyable atmosphere.

Key responsibilities:

  • Check identification and verify the legal drinking age of patrons before serving alcoholic beverages.
  • Serve beer and other beverages to patrons in accordance with established service guidelines and regulations.
  • Monitor alcohol consumption and collaborate with Community Safety volunteers as necessary to prevent overconsumption or underage drinking.
  • Provide information about available beverage options and answer questions from patrons.
  • Collect payment for beverages and accurately process transactions using cash registers or payment systems.
  • Ensure cleanliness and orderliness in the beer garden area, including clearing empty glasses and trash.
  • Assist with monitoring crowd behavior and enforcing event rules and regulations to maintain a safe and respectful environment.



Volunteer Supervisor

The Volunteer Supervisor plays a leadership role in overseeing and coordinating the activities of volunteers at the Celebration. They provide guidance, support, and direction to volunteers, ensure that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively, and serve as a point of contact for volunteers and event organizers. Note: Previous experience in volunteer management, leadership, or event coordination is preferred.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage a team of volunteers, providing instructions, and monitoring performance.
  • ​​Provide ongoing support and guidance to volunteers throughout their shifts, offering assistance and resolving problems as needed.
  • Assign and adjust tasks and responsibilities to volunteers based on the event’s needs as the day progresses.
  • Supervise volunteers during setup, operation, and teardown phases of the event, ensuring that tasks are completed in a timely and organized manner.
  • Serve as a point of contact for volunteers, addressing questions, concerns, and issues that arise during the event.
  • Coordinate with event organizers and staff to ensure that volunteer needs are met and that volunteers are effectively integrated into event operations.
  • Serve as a liaison between volunteers and event organizers, communicating important information, updates, and changes as needed.



Community Safety

Community Safety Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of attendees at the Juneteenth street festival. They help monitor the event area, provide assistance to attendees, and respond to emergencies or incidents as needed. Note: Previous experience in security, emergency response, or community safety is preferred but not required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Observe designated areas of the festival grounds to monitor for any potential safety hazards or concerns.
  • Assist with crowd control and traffic management to maintain a safe and orderly flow of attendees.
  • Provide directions, assistance, and information to attendees, including locating first aid stations, restrooms, and other amenities.
  • Report any suspicious or concerning behavior to event organizers or security personnel.
  • Serve as a point of contact for attendees who require assistance or have questions or concerns.
  • Collaborate with event staff, security personnel, and other volunteers to address safety-related issues and ensure a coordinated response.
  • Help enforce event rules and regulations to promote a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.



Set Up + Tear Down

Set Up and Tear Down Volunteers play a crucial role in the preparation and cleanup of the event venue before and after the Celebration Festival. They assist with setting up equipment, decorations, and signage before the event begins and help with dismantling and cleaning up the area once the event concludes. Note: must be able to perform tasks that may require lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with the setup of tents, tables, chairs, and other equipment in designated areas according to the event layout and plan.
  • Hang banners, signs, and decorations to enhance the visual appeal of the festival grounds.
  • Arrange barricades, ropes, and directional signage to guide attendees and control foot traffic around the venue.
  • Assist vendors and exhibitors with unloading and setting up their booths or display areas as needed.
  • Help organize and distribute event materials, such as programs, maps, and giveaways, to designated locations.
  • Assist with the teardown and removal of equipment, decorations, and signage at the conclusion of the event.
  • Dispose of trash and recycling materials in designated bins and ensure that the event area is left clean and tidy.



VIP Area

VIP Area Volunteers ensure the smooth operation and guest satisfaction within the VIP area of the Juneteenth Fillmore Celebration. They provide assistance to VIP guests, maintain the cleanliness and organization of the area, and contribute to creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Greet VIP guests as they enter the VIP area and provide them with any necessary information or assistance.
  • Assist in managing the check-in process for VIP guests, including verifying credentials.
  • Monitor the VIP area to ensure that only authorized individuals have access and that guests adhere to any designated guidelines or rules.
  • Provide information about VIP amenities, such as complimentary refreshments or exclusive entertainment, and assist guests with any special requests.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness within the VIP area, including clearing empty glasses, replenishing supplies, and tidying furniture and decor.
  • Monitor seating arrangements and assist guests with finding available seating options or resolving any seating-related issues.
  • Act as a point of contact for VIP guests, addressing any questions, concerns, or requests they may have and ensuring their overall satisfaction.



Green Team

Trash and Recycling Sorting Volunteers play a vital role in promoting sustainability and maintaining cleanliness throughout the Juneteenth Fillmore Celebration. They assist in collecting, sorting, and disposing of waste materials in designated bins, ensuring that trash and recyclables are properly managed and disposed of.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the back of house stage areas by picking up litter and debris as needed, as well as keeping walkways and seating areas clear for performers.
  • Patrol back of house stage areas to collect and sort trash and recyclable materials.
  • Provide assistance to festival attendees in disposing of their waste and directing them to appropriate trash and recycling bins.
  • Sort waste materials into separate bins for trash, recyclables, and compostables, following established guidelines and protocols.

All-Day Volunteer

All-Day Volunteers will act as “Junior Coordinators,” since they will spend more time in a specific role. Select this option if you would like to volunteer for the whole day, including setup and tear down. If you select this option, you will act as a team leader for different shift groups of people in this role. Let your volunteer recruiter know if you have a role placement preference.
