Experience an evening of immersive sound in VOICES: Twisting Tongues, a surround‑sonic exploration of languages, voices, and evolving technologies. The event honors International Mother Language Day, a UNESCO‑designated celebration that promotes linguistic and cultural diversity and encourages the preservation of mother tongues around the world.
Co‑initiated by Juraj Kojš and Laurah Merisier, the performance intertwines multilingual tongue twisters, a polyrhythmic spelling bee, the Slovak “Hay Song,” an original Seminole song, computer‑language sequences, graphic scores, and street chants. Audience members will also be invited to generate prompts for AI‑created tongue twisters, interpreted live by both the choir and the electronic ensemble.
Framing the performance, the Language Market—a pop‑up gathering of Miami’s cultural clubs—offers opportunities to learn simple phrases and tongue twisters in Slovak, Czech, Hungarian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Creole, and more.
Celebrate the beauty, playfulness, and importance of your mother tongue. Join us for an evening of collective voice, connection, and cultural resonance.
