The VOCA Chorus of Toronto is looking forward to presenting "When Music Sounds" at 7:30 pm on Saturday, May 2 at our new concert venue, Eglinton St. George's (ESG) United Church.

Three striking Ola Gjeilo selections with string quartet will be featured: the thrilling and epic Dark Night of the Soul (also with piano), his enchanting The Lake Isle (also with acoustic guitar and piano) and the sublime Sacred Heart (Ubi Caritas III). We'll be featuring another gorgeous setting of The Lake Isle of Innisfree (for choir and piano) by London, Ontario's Sarah Quartel, along with two works by Kingston's Mark Sirett: his dynamic Barter (with string quartet and piano) and his heartwrenching Hold On.
We'll also be performing two powerful works accompanied by frame drum, yôtin (The Wind) and nipîy (Water Song) by Edmonton-area Cree composer Sherryl Sewepagaham, as well as a serene a cappella setting of My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose by Toronto's Stephanie Martin, featuring tenor soloist David Walsh. Also included will be our concert's namesake: the exquisite When Music Sounds by another Toronto composer, Katharine Petkovski.
