Visit Phoenix Presents: A Desert Alternative Showcase

On March 12, 2026, Visit Phoenix and There Space bring an all-ages, curated slice of the city's rising cultural scene to SXSW. A Desert Alternative Showcase is a free, official SXSW activation spotlighting the emerging artists, collaborators, and creatives rapidly redefining the Southwest's creative landscape.

Taking place from 1–6 p.m. at Chess Club (617 Red River St), the event immerses SXSW attendees and Austinites in the sound, flavor, and spirit of Phoenix's desert alternative scene.

fearofmakingout — A cornerstone of Phoenix's Desert Alternative movement, entering SXSW with a remix rollout of Mi Cielo, leading into their full remix tape Tu Cielo and upcoming EP, Artifacts 02.

Belgium Tree — The electroclash/indie sleaze revival duo known for intense, self-produced live performances, building toward the release of their upcoming album.

Pariah Pete — A staple of the Arizona music scene for over a decade, having opened for Doja Cat and Earthgang, and a proven ticket-seller across the Southwest.

kJADE — An alternative rapper cosigned by Ovrkast and Danny Brown, kJADE recently released "SUPERJAIL," the first single from her album slated to drop around SXSW.

Estelle Allen — Blending hyperpop, pop, rock and R&B, Estelle brings a fully self-realized sound with indie film placements, a forthcoming album, and summer tour on the horizon.

Food from Fat Fat's Chicken Shack brought to you by Phoenix New Times Rising Star Chef Devan.

There Space will be on-site with live screen printing, bring your own tees, totes, or whatever you want to customize. The first 50 guests receive a free tote bag packed with goods from emerging Phoenix businesses.
