About this Event
Mental Health Impacts of Social Media 3.5 hours: Will examine various types of social media from Instagram to TikTok and Reddit and their positive and negative influences on mental health. We will also explore the prevalence of mobile-device addiction and associated impacts.
Ethics in Telehealth and Social Media 3 Hours: Will explore what therapists need to do to comply with the updated telehealth section in the ACA Code of Ethics; the telehealth section of the NBCC Code of Ethics and the Standards for Technology in Social Work Practice.
Learning Objectives
- Define social media
- Describe various forms of social media
- Discuss at least 4 benefits and 4 drawbacks to social media use
- Explain the concept of mobile-device addiction and the biopsychosocial effects on the individual and family.
- Identify where to find those regulations in their professional code of ethics
- Describe unique issues regarding informed consent in virtual practice
- Explain the requirements for being able to provide telehealth services across state lines.
- Explain at least 3 issues related to confidentiality and HIPAA that therapists must address and ways to address them
- Explore how to handle confidentiality and prevent dual relationships in online settings
Meet the Speaker
Dawn-Elise Snipes PhD, LPC-MHSP, LMHC-QS has been providing continuing education and addiction counselor certificate training via AllCEUs.com since 2006. She has become an influencer on YouTube with over 500,000 subscribers to her counselor education channel, “DocSnipes.” In the past she served as an assistant professor of Counselor Education at the University of Florida; worked in community behavioral health for 17 years and has written 4 books: Journey to Recovery: A Comprehensive Guide to Recovery From Addiction and Mental Health Issues; 100+ Ways to Defeat Your Depression; 10 Weeks to Love and Abundance and Heal Your Nervous System.
