Description:
Imago Therapy is a form of therapy most used with couples in committed relationships. In Imago theory, individuals unconsciously attract and are attracted to partners who are uniquely suited to help them heal wounds remaining from childhood. In its most basic form, this therapy can support relationships through improving communication and helping partners to develop accurate empathy. With more advanced skills, the clinician can help couples achieve behavior change and undergo corrective experiences. The centerpiece of this therapy is its well-known dialogue format.
Learning Objectives:
1.Participants will become familiar with the basics of Imago Theory
2. Participants will learn to use the Imago Dialogue for improvement of communication and the
development of empathy; and learn how it can be used to support behavior change.
3. Participants will increase comfort in working with couples.
Speaker Bios:
Carolyn Buresh has a Master of Science in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University and is a Clinical Supervisor and Therapist at CentrePointe Counseling. She completed her Imago Therapy certification in 2008 under the tutelage of Rebecca Sears, M.Div., LPC, an Imago International Training Institute Senior Faculty Member and Senior Clinical Instructor. Carolyn enjoys working with a diverse adult population in individual and couple’s therapy.
Dan Stinchcomb has a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and a master’s in religious education with a focus in Adult Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth Texas. He is a Therapist at CentrePointe Counseling. Dan works with adults and does both individual and couple’s therapy.
