This training session is ONLINE.

The content covered in this training is consistent with the material delivered in other SAFEMinds In Practice sessions. Please note, for ethical and clinical considerations, you are expected to be available and present for the entirety of the training. No part time attendance is offered.

SAFEMinds: In Practice equips school staff to become 'Champions' in the use of the NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach and SAFEMinds Toolkit resources including the SAFEMinds Online materials and how to incorporate SAFEMinds into the school's existing professional learning and student wellbeing policies and initiatives.

SAFEMinds Online is a professional learning and resource package for schools and families that aims to:

  • Enhance early intervention mental health support for children and young people in schools; specifically mild mood disorders and self-harm.
  • Increase engagement of parents and carers with schools to support their child’s mental health more effectively; and
  • Develop clear and effective referral pathways between schools and community youth and mental health services.

SAFEMinds: In Practice participants will;

  • Develop an understanding of mental health in children and young people and how they are supported through SAFEMinds and the NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach.
  • Develop an understanding of self harm in schools, children and young people and how to respond using the NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach.
  • Be introduced to the NIP it in the bud! Toolkit, including the Safe and Healthy Bodies and Safe and Healthy Minds Brief Intervention Kits and explore the toolkit with a case study from SAFEMinds Online.
  • Have an opportunity to use the entire NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach and Toolkit resources through a new case study.
  • Reflect on local implementation of the NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach in your school community and develop an understanding of SAFEMinds: At Home resources for families.
