Veterans Divided: America\u2019s Military Voices on the Ukraine War

A sharp look at divisions among U.S. veterans over the Ukraine war.
About this Event

Retired U.S. Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Eugene Chu examines a striking and often overlooked divide among former U.S. service members over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. While many veterans have rallied in support of Ukraine—through advocacy, humanitarian efforts, or direct engagement—others have openly echoed Kremlin narratives or expressed support for Russia’s position. Drawing on military experience, policy work, and media analysis, Chu explores the motivations, values, and ideological currents behind these opposing camps. By profiling prominent veterans on both sides, the discussion highlights how their choices, rhetoric, and actions illuminate deeper tensions within American civil–military culture. The event offers a candid examination of how global conflict reverberates within the U.S. veteran community and what these divisions may signal for future debates on security, alliances, and democratic values.

Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be provided.
RSVP is recommended, and donations welcomed.

Eugene Chu is a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army Reserve with more than 23 years of combined service. His assignments included overseas postings in South Korea, Iraq, and Poland. Lieutenant Colonel Chu holds an undergraduate degree in political science and a graduate degree in business from Texas Christian University, with academic coursework in Chinese history, international business law, and Russian foreign policy. His professional and personal experience includes travel to Europe, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
