In honor of Veterans Day, we are so excited to welcome Reverend Clark Morgan to the History Center in partnership with the Mount Zion Black Cultural Center. Rev. Morgan will be portraying Medal of Honor Recipient Milton M. Holland of the 5th United States Colored Troops.Rev. Morgan was born in rural Mississippi. He moved to Toledo with his family, including five brothers and one sister, when he was four years old. He became interested in living history and the Civil War through his early research into the Buffalo Soldiers. After discovering how many Buffalo Soldiers were also Civil War veterans, he and one of his friends formed a reenacting group to portray a unit of the 5th USCT. In 2021, Rev. Morgan’s likeness was used in a sculpture called “Boundless” commemorating the USCT in Wilmington, North Carolina.
This event will follow the City of Athens Veterans Day activities. The Athens Veterans Day Parade will begin at 10:15, followed by a ceremony on College Green at 11:00 AM. Due to ongoing construction projects at the History Center, parking is very limited,
and visitors should come early to find such accommodations for their vehicles which may be a block or more from the History Center.
