About this Event
The artist is Johannes Vermeer. Be transported back in time and learn from this master through the eyes of Carin Hebenstreit. There are only 34 paintings firmly attributed to this celebrated artist, renowned for his masterful use of light in his works. Considered to be one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age, he primarily earned his living as an art dealer!
3-day weekend workshop, Friday thru Sunday, 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, April 25 thru 27.
Carin picked these two paintings to give the student a choice of doing something with simple elegance or more complicated detail, between a more spacial composition and a portrait. Both works are challenging, but in different ways and their compelling stories are worth sharing with others!
"The Guitar Player, " exhibits at the Kenwood House in London, England. It was stolen from there in the 70's and used as ransom for various demands, and was recovered by Scotland Yard in 1974 in a cemetery in London's financial district, undamaged but having some dampness. Carin states that "The Guitar Player" presents us with an excellent lesson in dealing with soft edges and defused details to help movement and create more space and depth. She cannot wait to share this eye opening work!
"Girl with a Pearl Earring," exhibits in the Mauritshuis Museum, in The Hague, Netherlands. The portrait is an "outlier" from most of his other works depicting everyday scenes and it has appeared in many books, films and art references, perhaps most recently in the film by that name starring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth (2003). The work according to Carin, "is a real beauty in its simplicity. It is a study of high contrast, soft subtleties and a limited pallet, and yet the color is fantastic!"
Students will learn about drawing, colors, textures and values to bring a masterpiece to life. Join renowned artist Carin Hebenstreit, a well known Portrait Painter, (with works in many collections and organizations throughout the United States, and especially in the Greater Cincinnati region), as she guides the class to their own masterpieces!
