Verbal Gerbil is a live literature evening where performers are accompanied by a live improvised jazz musician courtesy of Footprints Jazz.
Hosted by Stan Skinny, performers are welcome to sign up and perform poetry, storytelling, monlogues, hip hop or performance art.
Each month we also host a special guest to round off the evening.
VG celebrates lyrical expression in all its forms and we've hosted poets, comedians, rappers, electronic sound artists, folk troubadors and storytellers.
This month we have: Ray Hearne
A true local hero of the South Yorkshire folk scene. Ray is a performer rooted in the traditions of his Irish, Yorkshire past.
Blending A blarneying, expressive, lyrical, romantic, somehow feminine Irish, with a the more reticent, unornamented, grittily realistic, frequently monosyllabic, more masculine Yorkshire.
Ray hearne is absolute treasure.
