Venus Volcanism (listamannsnafn Rena Rasouli) er söngkona, tónlistarkona, hljóðkönnuður og tónlistarframleiðandi, fædd og uppalin á eyjunni Crete. Undanfarin fjögur ár hefur hún búið á Siglufirði.
Hún hefur numið nútímasöng og sótt námskeið í hefðbundnum og fjölradda söngtækni. Venus vinnur með ýmsum listamönnum og hljómsveitum innan grísku tónlistarsenunnar og er annar helmingur danska-gríska post-synth-punk dúósins V.V.I.A., ásamt In Atlas – fyrrum meðlimi Lepidoptera og The Man from Managra og stofnanda Arismari Trio.
Í verkefnum sínum spannar tónlist hennar breitt svið tónlistarstefna, þar sem ambient-tónlist, hefðbundnir og fjölradda þættir blandast við vettvangsupptökur.
Fyrsta sólóútgáfa hennar, EP-platan Rizitiko, kom út hjá Weaponize Your Sound, undirútgáfu skoska útgáfufyrirtækisins Optimo. Hún hefur verið kynnt og flutt í Grikklandi, Danmörku og íslandi.
Önnur EP-plata hennar, Tissue, kom út hjá Submersion Records og var flutt í eftirminnilegum tónleikum í Unaðsdalskirkju (sem hluti af Snæfjallahátíð), á Extreme Chill Festival, í Ibrahim Khan Mosque innan Fortezza of Rethymno, og í útsendingu Onassis Foundation, Stegi Radio TakeOver.
Venus hefur einnig tekið þátt í fjölda safnplatna og samstarfsverkefna, með útgáfum á merkjum á borð við Women of V.V.I.A., Natty Wombat Records, Phormix, Meta Moto, Vinylograph, June Records, Echovolt og Inner Ear.
Drifkrafturinn að baki tónsmíðum plötunnar var tilvísun í svissneska hljóðbylgjufræðinginn Hans Jenny:
„Náttúran skapar út frá hrynjanda, tímabilum, hringrásum, endurtekningum, röðum og framvindu o.s.frv. … Þannig verða náttúruleg form til. Sjálfur uppruni orðsins tissue („vefur“, en einnig „efni“) úr latneska orðinu texere („að vefa“) segir sitt: frumur raðast í línur, mynstur taka við hvert af öðru hvert sem við lítum. Frumubyggingar taka á sig mynd ramma, neta og grindverka – fjölskyldur eininga sem endurtaka sig og fylgja hver annarri í reglulegum röðum og mynda jaðra og þræði, hvort sem við skoðum þær með berum augum eða í smásjá.“
Verkefnið Venus Volcanism sækir innblástur í þessa hugmynd um náttúrulegan vef á tvo vegu. Annars vegar með því að beita rökfræði forma og raða náttúrunnar, þar sem hún „vefur“ endurtekin hljóðmynstur – eteríska sönglínu, hljóðgervla með dróna og hæga arpeggíóa – saman við náttúrulegt hljóðumhverfi (vettvangsupptökur) sem hún tók sjálf á ferðalögum sínum um nýtt umhverfi sitt: vaxandi kraft virks eldgoss í Fagradalsfjall, kraumandi leðju í gryfjum jarðhitasvæðisins Seltúni, flóð og fjöru sjávar í Dýrafirði, dularfull bergmál frosinna vatna og farfugla.
Samspil þessara þátta vefur saman hljóðræna ferð til hins ýtrasta norðurs, eins og hún upplifir það.
Platan „Tissue“ er hljóðræn heterótópía – á mörkum hins áþreifanlega og hins súrrealíska – þar sem titringur og hringlaga mynstur náttúrunnar vefa saman innra ferðalag skaparans í átt að sátt við eigin örvef.

Venus Volcanism Live Tissue
Few words about the album:
The driving force for the compositions of the album was a reference by the Swiss sound wave scientist Hans Jenny: “Nature creates based on rhythms, periods, cycles, reduplications, series, sequences, etc… This is how natural structures are constructed. The very origin of the word tissue (“tissue” but also “fabric”) from the Latin texere (“weave”) is a commentary in itself: cells are arranged in rows, patterns succeed one another wherever we look. Cellular structures take the form of frames, networks, lattices, families of elements that repeat and succeed one another in regular sequences, forming fringes and hyphae, whether we observe them with the naked eye or with a microscope.”
Venus Volcanism is inspired by this concept of the natural web in two ways: applying the logic of the structures and sequences of the natural world, she “weaves” repetitive patterns of sound – ethereal vocals, synthesizers with drones and slow arpeggios – with natural soundscapes (field recordings) she recorded herself while exploring her new environment – the crescendo of an active volcano in Fagradalsfjall, the mud bubbling in the troughs of the Seltún geothermal area, the ebb and flow of the ocean tide in Dýrafjörður, the eerie echoes of frozen lakes and migrating birds. The combination of the two weaves an aural journey to the ultimate North, as she experiences it.
The album “Tissue” is a sonic heterotopia, between the tangible and the surreal, in which the vibrations and cyclical patterns of nature weave the inner journey of reconciliation of the creator with her own personal scar tissues.

Venus Volcanism (aka Rena Rasouli) is a vocalist, musician, sound explorer, and music producer, born and raised on the island of Crete. For the past four years, she has been living in Siglufjörður.
She has studied modern singing and attended seminars on traditional and polyphonic vocal techniques. Venus collaborates with various artists and bands within the Greek music scene and is one half of the Danish-Greek post-synth punk duo V.V.I.A., alongside In Atlas—former member of Lepidoptera and The Man from Managra, and founder of the Arismari Trio.
In her projects projects her music spans a broad range of genres, blending ambient, traditional, and polyphonic elements with field recordings.
Her debut solo EP, Rizitiko, was released by Weaponize Your Sound, a sub-label of the Scottish imprint Optimo. It has been showcased in Greece, Denmark, and Iceland.
Her second EP, Tissue, was released on Submersion Records and featured in standout performances at Unaðdalskirkja Church in northwest Iceland (as part of the Snæfjallahátið Festival), Extreme Chill Festival, the Ibrahim Khan Mosque within the Fortezza fortress in Rethymno, and the Onassis Foundation’s Stegi Radio TakeOver.
Venus has also contributed to numerous compilations and collaborative projects, with releases on labels including Women of V.V.I.A., Natty Wombat Records, Phormix, Meta Moto, Vinylograph, June Records, Echovolt, and Inner Ear.
