Meeting Highlights:
Food: Light appetizers, coffee and tea will be provided. To help cover costs, we kindly
ask for a $30 + $3.40 (Eventbrite fee) = $33.40 contribution per attendee.
Agenda:
1. Opening Remarks: A welcome by VCAN’s founder.
2. Presentation: Inside the Deal - M&A from the Lawyer’s Chair with JP Smith, McLeod
Law
JP Smith has spent his career on the inside of deals that actually matter. As a Partner at
McLeod Law, he advises energy, infrastructure, and construction businesses on M&A,
corporate finance, and the commercial frameworks that hold complex transactions
together.
Before returning to private practice, JP held senior executive and legal roles at
two publicly traded companies, managing hundreds of millions in M&A deals, leading
public markets listings, and advising boards on governance and risk across a broad
portfolio of energy transactions.
On June 11th, JP will walk VCAN through what an M&A deal looks like from a lawyer's
chair: the pressure points, the landmines, and the practical moves that separate buyers
and sellers who come out ahead from those who don't.
3. Member Introductions: Each attendee will have 30 seconds to:
o Introduce themselves and share their company or professional background
o Highlight how VCAN can best support their business goals or needs
4. Open Networking: The remainder of the evening will be dedicated to building
connections.
