About this Event
Have fun with this hands on workshop exploring your creative curiosity and imagination -
Who it’s for:
This workshop is aimed at beginners, the workshop focuses on playful self-expression, curiosity, experimentation, connection and community.
There are no rules, no pressure, no previous experience needed.
A fully guided creative experience, we'll give you all the confidence you'll need:
- We start with a few simple, fun drawing exercises, this gets us loose and relaxed
- You'll get to play with some acrylic paint techniques.
- You'll slowly develop your ideas, composition & colour choices
- You'll have plenty of time to paint onto canvas.
- At the end you'll get to show your portrait in a big reveal.
The workshop is light and more playful — designed to keep energy moving and ideas flowing.
You might already enjoy creative work or are a complete beginner. You might be returning to it after a long gap. You might simply want a couple of hours with your partner that feels different from the usual routines, classes and workshops on offer for Valentines.
The session is friendly, social and grounded in the act of making together.
CRAYONS
The first thing we do at the start of every workshop is to get the crayons out. Remember them? Take a couple of minutes to relax, and paint a portriat of yourself through the eyes of a child.
TIME TO EXPERIMENT
You can see how we build up an abstract portrait in stages. You'll draw with your left and right hand and even with your eyes closed. we'll be doing some speed drawings, mixing colours and asking questions. At this stage we're exploring and playing with creative ideas.
SKETCHING IN COLOUR
During this part of the process you'll do plenty of quick colour sketches, you're building up ideas that you might want to incorporate into your final painting. Maybe it's a composition or certain colours you like, that capture a mood, a feeling or an emotional connection that captures your partner.
YOUR FINAL COMPOSITION
The last hour is spent on painting, you've done all the prep. You're ready to put paint onto canvas. It's time to be bold, now's not the time to have doubts. Follow your instincts, push your creative boundaries and you'll have something to be proud off.
THE BIG REVEAL
I've noticed something during every abstract portrait workshop that we've done. No one is ever disappointed, people are always surprised by what they achieve and the end result. Every painting is unique, and during the big reveal at the end no one has ever left feeling disappointed.
DRAWING GAMES
During the workshop we break things up with some fun drawing games. This one is a guessing game, the group draw one person. After 5 minutes the person being drawn has to put a name to the drawing, seeing how many they can get right.
