About this Event
Our visiting scholars are Darren Parry, a distinguished former Utah Congressional candidate, Author, Storyteller, Practitioner-in-Residence at the University of Utah, and former Chairman of the Northwest Band of the Shoshone Nation; and Fred John Jr., Athabaskan, elder representative for the Alaska Federation of Natives, US Navy veteran, affiliated with the Mentasta tribe and a shareholder of Ahtna Corporation. Both presenters are being asked to present their research, experiences, and practical applications related to actively incorporating Indigenous perspectives, knowledge systems, and cultural practices into the academic institution, aiming to make the academy more inclusive and respectful of Indigenous communities. With a strong focus on indigenizing the academe and conservation. A performance, presentation, and cipher will also be held by 1520 Arts out of Salt Lake City.
