Webinar Description:
Discover how to incorporate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities into storytelling, songs, and poems. By learning and using STEAM activities, you will transform students’ learning into a fully interactive, creative, and innovative new teaching method. Examples of Fairy Tale STEAM activities that will be presented in this webinar include creating an alarm system and “bear-icade” to protect the Three Bears’ house, and creating a zipline or boat to save the Gingerbread Man. Nursery Rhyme STEAM activities include creating a magnetic track while singing “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad,” and designing a paper world as part of “If All the World Were Paper.” Finger play STEAM activities include creating twinkling lights for singing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, helping Five Little Monkeys stay safe, and many more! Imagine and create a whole new way of teaching STEAM skills!
Objectives:
The participants will be able to…
1. Identify early learning standards for Language Arts/Literacy, and be able to explain how those standards relate to, and can be integrated with, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math).
2. Identify 21st Century Skills (e.g., creativity, communication, innovation, collaboration), and apply those skills to STEAM activities.
3. Define the terms “fairy tale”, “nursery rhyme”, and “finger play”, and describe the similarities and differences of each.
4. Analyze a variety of fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and finger plays and identify new ways to teach STEAM skills.
5. Use a variety of text-based STEAM activities that engage students, develop 21st Century Skills, and integrate Language Arts/Literacy standards.
