What will students do at the AFA CyberCamp?
The AFA CyberCamp program is designed to excite students new to cybersecurity about STEM career opportunities and teach them important cyber defense skills through hands-on instruction and activities. Through the camp, students will learn how to protect their personal devices and information from outside threats, as well as how to harden entire networks running Windows and Ubuntu operating systems.
The AFA CyberCamp will culminate in an exciting final team competition that simulates real cybersecurity situations faced by industry professionals and mimics AFA’s CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Defense Competition.
Who can attend?
The curriculum is designed for students new to cybersecurity. We are inviting students who are at least 11 years of age, as the material does get somewhat technical and a good attention span and maturity level is required (This is NOT a daycare. Please use good decision-making on your child’s maturity level). The camp is limited to 25-30 participants so there is limited space.
Is there a fee to attend?
Yes. A fee of $200 will be charged. This fee includes the AFA camp fee, student handouts; end-of-week team competition fee; shared use of a computer if your participant cannot bring their PC; snacks; and a priceless introduction into the cyber world. A souvenir t-shirt is extra;
Crew 1024 to host AFA CyberCamp
Plano, TX – Venturing Crew 1024 is one of many youth focused organizations across the United States hosting the Air Force Association’s (AFA) CyberCamp Program this summer. Some members of crew 1024 attended this very same camp 8 years ago and will be instructors.
As an AFA CyberCamp host, Crew 1024 will receive software and a hands‐on curriculum kit designed to teach students cyber safety, cyber ethics, and critical network security skills and tools. Each AFA CyberCamp will culminate in an exciting team‐based competition that puts the campers in the role of IT administrators tasked with finding and addressing cybersecurity vulnerabilities in simulated network environments.
This competition closely mirrors the AFA’s annual CyberPatriot National Cyber Defense Competition, which will enter its seventeenth season in October.
The CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Education Program was created by the Air Force Association in 2009 to attract students to cybersecurity and other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future. In addition to the annual National Youth Cyber Defense Competition and the new AFA CyberCamp program, CyberPatriot has launched an Elementary School
Cyber Education Initiative is designed to introduce young students to online safety.

“As a past President of the North Texas ISSA, I am thrilled about the transformative experience the AFA Cybersecurity Boot Camp offers to Scouts. Drawing from my experience in the cybersecurity field, I understand the critical shortage of skilled professionals we face across the nation. This camp presents a golden opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in the fundamentals of cybersecurity from a young age, setting a solid foundation for those who might aspire to a career in this indispensable industry."
