THE TRIAL OF MONOGAMY
For the lover in you. Not the hater… or the cheater.
140 years ago European powers met in Berlin to discuss how they would divide and subsume Africa, a meeting which came to be known as the Berlin Conference. 140 years later we are examining the impact European colonialism had on Africans and further afield. For our St. Valentine’s special of Uppity we are examining the colonial impact on the most personal and intimate of human connections: love. Specifically, we are examining the rights and wrongs of the construct known as ‘monogamy’. Some of the questions we will answer include:
· Has monogamy made the world a happier and more honest place or not?
· Does polyamory represent the truly (decolonised) freedom to love who you wish?
· Should the state have the right to legislate how consenting adults – or groups thereof – choose to love each other?
Having heard all of the arguments, you – the audience (i.e. the jury) – will decide.
Join us for our St. Valentine’s special: The Trial of Monogamy.
We will soon announce our full panel of speakers (defenders and prosecutors) and our full programme for the evening.
