About the Book
Deborah Jean Templin has written 20 plays and conducted playwriting workshops on how to “Write Your Story.” While on the national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical Titanic, she was motivated to create her solo play, UNSINKABLE WOMEN: Stories and Songs From the Titanic. Her autobiographical solo show Singing for the Cows: Homesteading a Dream received a Minnesota Heritage Arts Grant. Her shows have played at more than 160 venues throughout the United States and abroad including the International Jewish Performing Arts Festival in England and Lincoln Center’s Library for the Performing Arts Series in New York City. In addition to her work as a writer, Templin is an award-winning veteran of theatre, film and television, including performances in the national tours of Broadway’s Mamma Mia!, Baby, Annie and Titanic. She has taught at California State University, Long Beach, Susquehanna University and Cornell University. She is a member of the Dramatist Guild, SAG-AFTRA and Actors’ Equity Association.
About the Author
UNSINKABLE WOMEN: Stories and Songs From the Titanic dives into the lives of nine women who experienced the sinking of the Titanic and how the disaster shaped their perspectives. A broad tapestry is woven from vivid monologues and historical songs from the period. From the grandeur of Titanic’s launch, to the harrowing night of the sinking, to choosing hope and activism in the aftermath, UNSINKABLE WOMEN highlights not only the disaster itself but also the strength and transformation of these women in the years that followed.
