About this Event

Come together to connect, share, and build a city-wide, anti-racist movement.

Young People’s Experiences of Racism in Birmingham & beyond:

The rise of racism over the last year is having far-reaching impacts on the lives of young people — through lived experiences, in our communities, and online. The city vision seeks to make Birmingham the best place for young people and a world leading anti-racist city by 2035. But is anyone listening and responding to the realities of the racism they are facing?

Unite the People (UTP) is a collective city-wide movement bringing people together for a big festival rally, in 2026, to tackle the rise of racism and fascism - celebrating creativity, connecting communities. The experiences, voices, and energy of young people are central to building unity against racism and securing brighter futures.

We want to support young people’s leadership by inviting 18–25 year olds to take part in fortnightly youth sessions — spaces to connect, share experiences, and organise collectively.

Come and share your realities, build solidarity, and organise together to challenge the racism targeting our communities and neighbourhoods.

The next youth group meet up is taking place at 5pm on Monday 2nd February, followed by the wider Unite the People gathering at 7pm. You are warmly invited to attend both.

This event is a collaboration between Birmingham Race Impact Group (BRIG), Kings Heath United Against Racism (KHUAR), Stand Up to Racism Birmingham, and community partners across the city.

Thanks to Gary Younge and colleagues, supported by funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, for enabling the Unite the People fortnightly check-ins at the BRIG Café.
