The Unicorn Ceilidh at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock on Friday 11th April 2025 will feature a welcome return for one Cambridgeshire's premier ceilidh bands, Frog on a Bike and caller Ollie Simons.Often described as one of the “flat lands” finest folk-rock ceilidh bands, the ever busy Frog on a Bike have been an established and hugely popular name on the professional East Anglian ceilidh scene for over 30 years.
Composers and creative interpreters of traditional tunes, Frog on a Bike’s frenetic energy, distinctive sound and driving rhythm is guaranteed to have you up and dancing. “[Their] seemingly endless surplus energy should perhaps be harnessed and channeled back to the national grid!" With a luscious line-up of sumptuous melodeon, recorder, fiddle and mandolin, backed by a riotous rhythm section of bass and drums, you won’t be disappointed you came along for a ride with this “bit of treasure” (Sue Marchant) from the Fens. “Just what English Ceilidh dancing is all about!" Ollie Simons is one of the most charismatic and in demand young callers currently on the scene. He’s also a member of more Morris dance teams than you would think possible at once! Ollie’s calling is infectious, you can’t help but dance with a grin on your face!
Interval entertainment will be from St Albans Morris, a long-established, friendly, mixed side who have been dancing the Cotswold tradition around Hertfordshire and beyond since 1930
The evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes at 11.00 p.m. Adults - £13, concessions and children’s tickets available (see website for details). There’s a real ale, cider, wine and soft drinks bar and a raffle at the half-time break; parking is easy in the town centre, just walk to the church and you’ll find the hall in the church grounds.
