About this Event
This 21 CLETS, LLC training is designed for all first responders to increase awareness of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and other mental health concerns they may experience while working with the public. This course covers common causes, dangers, and behaviors to look for in the general public, themselves, loved ones, and peers. Students learn about some of the more common medications used to treat each and tips for recognizing when someone might not be taking their Medic*tion as needed. Finally, students will learn self-care tips and create a list of resources available for help.
Students will learn:
• To recognize specific signs and symptoms of TBIs and PTSD
• How the brain changes due to trauma
• To distinguish the kinds of behaviors first responders may observe in others with a TBI, experiencing PTSD
• To understand how these can co-occur with other disorders such as substance abuse, depression, and anxiety
• To identify the most common psychotropic medications and ways to determine someone might not be taking their Medic*tion as needed
• To recognize signs and symptoms to watch for in themselves, friends, family, and co-workers
• To determine coping strategies and how and where to seek help if needed
• The importance of self-care and asking for help before it’s too late
