About this Event
Understanding Demand Avoidance
Avoiding demands is something common to most people in varying degrees and for a variety of reasons. For some autistic people a change in routine, transitioning between activities/environments can cause sensory overload and trigger anxiety. This can then cause them to go into a fight/ flight/ freeze response. Many avoid demand to reduce the impact of these situations.
This workshop aims to help parents and carers to gain an understanding of demand avoidance in children and young people and its' impact on day-to-day life. We will look at the demand avoidant profile and explore strategies for supporting your child, as well as providing information on local, national and international resources.
Please note this workshop is funded by Reaching Families for parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities in West Sussex only. It is not suitable for professionals.
