Did you know that the average amount of time infants spend fussing or crying over a 24-hour period at 5–6 weeks of age is just over two hours? By 10–12 weeks, this almost halves to around 68 minutes per day.
This pattern is known as the “normal infant crying curve”, where crying typically peaks at around six weeks of age before gradually declining. Colic is a catch-all term often used to describe babies who experience excessive or prolonged crying.
In this session, we will:
- Normalise infant crying and explain why it happens
- Acknowledge how stressful and exhausting crying can be for parents
- Explore how excessive crying can impact parental wellbeing and relationships
- Share practical coping strategies and tips that may help
- Discuss “red flags” and when to seek further support
This session will be run by BCT Early Days Supporter Jo Aubrey, a mum of three and a UK-registered nurse with extensive experience supporting new mothers.
