On Sunday, April 26th exhibiting artists Aurora Molina and Robertha Haddad Blatt will be activating the gallery space in honor of the Red Thread Artist Studio Miami one last time. Join us for a special closing gathering honoring female kinship and the transformative community woven through this cycle.
As a final gesture,Molina and Haddad Blatt come together in a performative conversation inspired by the Compass Rose — a reflection on direction, listening, and what we wish to bring forth into the world.
Aurora Molina (b. 1984, Havana, Cuba)
Aurora Molina is a Miami-based artist whose interdisciplinary practice centers on textile and fiber arts. Emigrating to the U.S. at sixteen, she earned degrees in Visual Arts from Miami Dade College, a BFA in Mixed Media from Florida International University, and a Master’s in Contemporary Art from Universidad Europea de Madrid.
Molina uses embroidery, sculpture, and multimedia to address social and political issues, especially the marginalization of the elderly. Her work draws on research trips across Southeast Asia and Latin America, and her technical expertise has been honed through collaborations such as assisting with Sheila Hicks’ exhibition at The Bass Museum.
She is the co-founder of FAMA (Fiber Artists–Miami Association) and the founder of Red Thread Artist Studios, a groundbreaking space supporting fiber-based artistic practices. Since 2011, she has been represented by the Bernice Steinbaum Gallery.
Robertha Haddad Blatt
In constant dialogue with her role as an educator and psychologist for over two decades, Robertha Blatt delves into the convergence of therapeutic practices and artistic expressions where presence and encounter are guiding principles for sensitizing the potentialities of bodies engaging with spaces, experiences and sensory materialities.
The collective nature of Blatt’s oeuvre surpasses a mere engagement with the finished works; rather, it emanates from the very conception of her artistic propositions, grounded in the dynamic exchange between individuals, institutions, communities, public spaces, artists, and other pivotal cultural agents.
Characterized by relational, installative and durational attributes, Robertha's artistic practice extends beyond the conventional artist's role: it encompasses endeavors such as organizing collective and itinerant exhibitions, interfacing with museum collections, devising educational initiatives, promoting roundtable discussions, mobilizing local communities, and collaboratively activating participatory works – events that can only unfold if conjugated in the first person singular and plural simultaneously.
