About the book
When one of the last remaining American theatre icons, Academy Award-winning actress Estelle Parsons, asked her journalist daughter, Abbie Britton, to record her professional accomplishments and the development of her acting process, Britton made an inspiring discovery: that here were lessons which anyone could live by. In a fascinating personal investigation between actor and journalist, mother and daughter, Parsons shares her maverick spirit as she moved through uncharted territories in the theatre, and on the road in search of great plays to perform. This is for anyone whose compass may take them off the map into the unknowns of creativity. It is about how to become curious and release fears to craft a successful life. About the authors:
Estelle Parsons is most widely known for her Academy Award winning performance in Bonnie and Clyde, and her role as Mother Bev, mother of the title character in the hit sitcom, Roseanne and it’s successor, The Connors.
In the theater, she has been appearing on Broadway and off for 65 years in plays by the great writers of our time.
As a director, she created the New York Shakespeare Festival Players for Joseph Papp in the 1980s to perform Shakespeare On Broadway for New York City school students and their families in an effort to develop a multicultural audience for New York City. She also directed Al Pacino in Oscar Wilde's Salome: The Reading on Broadway and tour.
Estelle Parsons is a member of the Actors Studio and was inducted into • the Theater Hall of Fame in 2004.
Abbie Britton, M.A. is a former award-winning journalist and editor (Mode, Mirabella, Self, American Marie Claire, Code). She has spent a lifetime investigating ancient texts, notably, as a Latin scholar at Columbia University, and a Sanskrit scholar at Loyola Marymount University, where she received her master’s degree in yoga science.
