About this Event
A Turkic Showcase taking place on May 23rd at the NW Folklife Festival: free and open to everyone! The event will be held at Bagley Wright Theater in downtown Seattle and will feature theater, music, and vibrant traditional dances from the Turkic peoples of Central Asia. No tickets are required, but seating is limited, so early arrival is recommended.
Umay’s Children is a musical and theatrical showcase that traces the thousand-year odyssey of the Turkic spirit. Guided by the voice of the ancient Mother Goddess, Umay (𐰆𐰢𐰖), the performance traverses a vast cultural map, from the frozen forests of the Siberian North to the sun-warmed shores of Anatolia. Through traditional instruments, dances, and ancestral storytelling, we honor the diverse voices of the Turkic people. This showcase is more than a concert; it is a living tribute to resilience, a memory of shared roots, and a celebration of the unbroken family of sound that unites us all across borders and time.
