Formed over 15 years ago by guitarist Peter Baylor Ultrafox has earned a reputation as one of Australia’s premier swing bands. Drawing inspiration from the iconic manouche swing artists of the Hot Club of France in pre-war Paris Ultrafox delivers a blend of elegant swing and exuberant dynamic dance-tempo jazz. Their music is defined by the muscular hard-driving swing of gypsy-style acoustic guitars interwoven with lyrical yet fiery solos honouring the cultural legacy of the genre.
Ultrafox has released three albums that feature both fresh interpretations of timeless classics and original compositions forming the core of their extensive repertoire. Featuring Peter Baylor on guitar and vocals Sam O’Halloran on guitar Jon Hunt on clarinet Howard Cairns on bass and Georgia Brookes on vocals Ultrafox pays tribute to the music of gypsy legend Django Reinhardt while adding their own distinctive flair.
