Swedenborg House is proud to present:
The UK Premiere of OUTRIDER
(2025, 1 hr 41 mins) Director: Alystyre Julian; Executive Producer: Martin Scorsese.
A film exploring Anne Waldman’s life and practice, followed by a panel discussion with Anne Waldman, Alystyre Julian and Stephen Coates.
As part of the Allen Ginsberg at 100 celebrations, curated and produced by Jesse Goodman and Peter Hale in collaboration with the Allen Ginsberg Estate, The Bureau of Lost Culture and the Southbank Centre, Swedenborg House is delighted to host the UK premiere of Outrider (2025, 1 hr 41 mins), directed by Alystyre Julian and executive produced by Martin Scorsese.
Described in the official copy as: “a kinetic portal into fast-speaking poet Anne Waldman’s transcendent role as a visionary word-worker, from the downtown New York scene and the Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church, to the ‘Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics,’ to Big Sur, Mexico City, Morocco, and onward. Guided by ancestors of the Beat generation and poetic kinships with radical female musicians, Outrider channels the ancient, bardic tradition—celebrating the thunderous power of poetry.”
“Outrider is a love letter to the lightning strike of poets in performance. As a decades-long participant in the New York downtown poetry scene, I had a deep connection to Anne Waldman as a driving force, I conceived of a film that would depict her life and work in the Outrider lineage of poets, with Waldman at the center, I honed in on the kinetic variety in her performances.”—Alystyre Julian
