Exhibition Opening: Michael Armitage – Account of an Illiterate Man
10 June at 5.00 pm
Join us at the Glyptotek for a celebration of the opening of the special exhibition, ‘Michael Armitage – Account of an Illiterate Man’. It is a great opportunity to hear a conversation between this internationally-acclaimed artist and the curator of the exhibition, Anna Kærsgaard Gregersen.
‘Michael Armitage – Account of an Illiterate Man’ is the artist’s very first solo show in the Nordic region. Armitage (b. 1984) was born in Kenya and divides his time between London and Nairobi. His monumental oil paintings interweave motifs of political events, pop culture, folklore and personal memories and mythology, and hover between East African and European traditions. Based on the Glyptotek’s collections of 6,000 years of art and archaeological objects, the works will be presented in a site-specific installation.
You are invited to join us for a beer in the Central Hall at 5.00 pm. After an opening speech given by the Director of the Glyptotek, Gertrud Hvidberg-Hansen, you can hear the conversation between Michael Armitage and the curator, Anna Kærsgaard Gregersen. The conversation will be conducted in English.
