Come join us at the UCL Institute of Archaeology for a fascinating seminar on South American archaeology! Save the date - 23rd November 2024!


Program:

10.00am Coffee/ Registration

10.30am Rosabella Alvarez-Calderon (UCL) Huaca and City on the Northern Coast of Peru: Modern challenges and possibilities in the cultural urban landscape of Trujillo and Chan Chan

11.10am Andrea Martínez-Carrasco (UCL) Who manufactured Inka Urpus and shallow dishes in southern Qullasuyu? Technological characterisation of late pottery in the Aconcagua Valley (Central Chile).

11.50am Sabine Hyland (University of St. Andrews) Personhood in Andean Khipus: Human Figurines in the Khipus of Rapaz and Jucul

3.30pm Haagen D. Klaus (George Mason University) Lambayeque Valley Biohistory: Reconstructing Life and Death from the Era of Early Social Complexity to the Spanish Colonization of Northern Coastal of Peru (1500 BCE-1750 CE)

4.10pm Camila Alday (Cambridge University) The Emergence of Cotton (Gossypium Barbadense) as Textile Plant.

Attendees (including speakers) will be charged £10 in the morning at the start of the seminar for coffee, tea and lunch.

After the seminar we usually walk over for a drink at the Tavistock Hotel, everyone is welcome.
