About this Event

P&T Knitwear is pleased to welcome writer Uche Okwonko for a discussion of her newest book, A Kind of Madness— named an , a searing, unflinching collection of stories set in Nigeria that explores themes of community expectations, familial strife, and the struggle for survival — with a discussion, audience Q&A, and book signing!

Uche will be joined in conversation by 2023 Whiting Award-winning author Sidik Fofana. After the talk, Uche will sign copies of her book.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

’s stories have been published in A Public Space, One Story, Kenyon Review, Ploughshares, The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2019, and Lagos Noir, among others. A former Bernard O’Keefe Scholar at Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and resident at Art Omi, she is a recipient of the George Bennett Fellowship at Phillips Exeter Academy and a Steinbeck Fellowship. Okonkwo grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, and is currently pursuing a creative writing PhD at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR
is a public school teacher in Brooklyn and graduate of NYU’s MFA Creative Writing program. He is a recipient of the 2023 Whiting Award and was also named an Emerging Writer Fellow at the Center for Fiction in 2018. His work has appeared in the Sewanee Review and Granta. He is the author of , published by Scribner in 2022.
