Join world-leading sustainability icons, business leaders, and decision makers, at the 2026 Tyler Prize 'State of the Environment' address, delivered by this year's winner, Dr. Toby Kiers.
With 90% of our most diverse underground fungal systems unprotected, urgent action is needed to incorporate fungal data into global conservation plans.
The State of the Environment address is part of the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, spotlighting the most transformative ideas in environmental science today. Recognised globally for her pioneering research on mycorrhizal fungal networks and their hidden role in ecosystem health, climate regulation, and biodiversity, Dr. Kiers will challenge audiences to rethink the foundations of how life on Earth is sustained.
Beneath our feet, fungal networks that have already solved problems of supply chains, trust, and resilience at planetary scale. Dr. Kiers will urge decision-makers and the private sector to recognize fungi as a “library of solutions” for planetary crises by using the high-resolution digital Underground Atlas, created by her organization, SPUN.
