One of Michigan's most treasured vocalists, Twyla Birdsong, accompanied by an awesome group of poets & musicians, will bring "Pzazz, an afternoon of poetry & jazz" to UrbanBeat, 1213 Turner St. in Old Town Lansing on Sunday, June 7, from 4 to 6 PM. Tickets: $10 at the door, general; $5 students.Birdsong, known for her rich voice whose soulful sound blends blues, gospel, jazz and soul into a deeply moving experience, will be accompanied by premier guitarist Doug Fritch and Detroit bassist Trevor Lamb.
Poets Kim Griffin & former Lansing Poet Laureate Ruelaine Stokes will bring an electric and eclectic mix of spoken word art. Both have performed extensively with the spoken word troupe, "Voices of the Revolution."
Lois Mummaw, the past president and a founding member of the Jazz Alliance of Mid Michigan (JAMM) will serve as host and emcee for the program.
Food and beverages are available for purchase.
Parking is available on the street and in the large surface lot at the intersection of Turner St. and Cesar Chavez Blvd.
"Pzazz" is a monthly creative gathering underwritten by Cold Plunge Records, with support from Terry Terry and UrbanBeat.
