Learn how to get started with acrylic paints, acrylic mediums, and modern-day tools and applications for today's artists—as well as how to start and finish a painting.


Step-by-Step Guidance

Both realism and abstract styles can be explored in this course as the focus is on learning to paint in acrylic and everything that goes along with using acrylic paint.This is a beginner-friendly course and students will receive 1-on-1 instructor feedback. Drawing skills not required. Students will walk away with 1-2 paintings they create during the class.

Supply List for Students to Bring:

This is a studio class and students will be using their supplies on the first week.

  • 16x20 multi-pack of canvas
  • 9x12 palette paper pad
  • palette knife
  • acrylic brushes in various sizes (recommended Princeton Catalyst)
  • 2” wide, flat brush
  • acrylic paint in these or similar colors (recommended Nova, Liquitex Basics, or Golden Fluids): Titanium White, Carbon Black, Cadmium Red Medium, Quinacridone Magenta, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Ultramarine Blue, Pthalo Blue (Green Shade)...plus any other colors you already have!
  • 8oz Glazing medium, gloss or satin
  • 8-10oz Soft Gel medium, gloss
  • 8-10oz Modeling Paste medium, regular or lightweight
  • quality paper towels like Viva or Blue Shop Towel
