About this Event
This course is designed to look at what unions in the workplace can do to organise around work related stress and mental health issues. It is important to note this is not purely a mental health awareness course. We do not go into too much detail about the different specific mental ill health conditions or coping with them. The focus is on ensuring policies, processes and procedures are in place to prevent or negate escalation of mental ill health in the workplace.
We as trade unionists have a vital role to play in ensuring that the workplace environment is a safe and healthy place to be, and that issues relating to poor mental health do not remain unchecked and unrecognised by the employer. Through effective organising and campaigning, trade unions should take a proactive approach to ensure we are preventing the onset of poor mental health in the workplace. As with any health and safety issue, the primary aim is to prevent incidents rather than to react to them happening.
